If you play the strongest man on Earth, you will either die an
untimely death or end up in the weakest position possible.
The ‘terrify’ statements above
was warned by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, the creators of the world strongest
man Superman. They created him in 1938 but copyrights of the character was hold
by DC Comics. They insisted the company for its unfair compensation because of
Superman success in market. New York’s
Supreme Court’s solution was the company must give both of them $60.000
respectively. It still was unfair decisions compare to millions dollars that
the company reached from Superman. Siegel and Shuster kept trying to demand DC
Comics until 1975 so that the company approved to give them pension funds worthed
$35.000 annualy and will announced their name whenever they use the character.
Besides Superman, they never created another characters as famous as it.
Due to the unfair compensation that they received from DC Comics, then they
curse whoever play as Superman would be find untimely death or end up in the
weakest position. Here are the ‘victims’ of the Superman Curse:
The Fleishcer Brothers
Brothers Max and
Dave Fleischer
produced the original Superman cartoons (besides Popeye and
Betty Boop). Shortly after bringing Superman into animation,
the Fleischers began feuding with one another; their studio slumped financially
until they were forced to sell to Paramount Pictures, which ousted the Fleischers
and rearranged their company as Famous Studios.
Although Dave Fleischer went on to a career as a special effects
advisor at Universal Studios, Max died penniless at the Motion Picture
& Television Country House and Hospital.
Kirk Alyn
Kirk Alyn played Superman in two low-budget 1940s serials but failed to find work afterwards, saying that casting directors thought he was too recognized as Superman. He eventually retired to Arizona. He made an uncredited cameo appearance in the 1978 Superman: The Movie as the father of young Lois Lane, who witnesses young Clark Kent racing their train. Alyn developed Alzheimer's disease before passing away of related causes at the age of 89 in 1999.
George Reeves
George
Reeves played Superman in the 1951
film Superman and the Mole Men and the
ensuing television series Adventures of Superman. Like Alyn, he
was recognized only for that role. On June 16, 1959, days before he was to be
married, Reeves was found dead of a gunshot wound at his home with his Luger
near him. The death was ruled a suicide but other theories persist.
Christopher Reeve
Christopher Reeve played Superman/Clark Kent in
the Superman film series, Superman: The
Movie (1978), Superman II (1980), Superman III
(1983),
and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987).
The actor was paralyzed
from the neck down after being thrown from his horse in a cross-country equestrian riding event on
May 27, 1995. Reeve died on October 10, 2004 due to heart failure
stemming from his medical condition.
Lee Quigley
Lee Quigley, who played the baby Kal-El in the 1978 Superman
movie, died in March 10, 1991
at the age of fourteen after inhaling solvents. Although he never play as
Superman, but playing a baby of the strongest man on the Earth made him
‘touched’ by the curse.
John Haymes Newton and Gerard Christopher
They were actors who starred as the title character in the Superboy television series (1988–1992). But the end of their career, they fell
into obscurity
after their respective tenures as the character.
‘Save’ of the Curse
Tragedy or sad-ending story seems
to felt on of those actors whom play as Superman. Same facts of them do not
mean Superman’s curse have been occurred. Because another people who entangled
of Superman’s project (movie, series) can continue their life without any
accident or tragedy. They even have successful career after their debut of

Brandon Routh
Played as
Superman
in Superman Returns (2006). Although fans have feared that he would fall victim to
the curse, he continues his life with a successful acting career and has not
suffered any misfortunes or tragedies thus far. Routh was set to reprise his
role as Superman in a planned sequel to Superman Returns, but project
was later cancelled. Although Routh has yet to star in any notable roles yet,
apart from a major recurring role on the American television series Chuck.
Dean Cain
Became a household name in the mid-1990s
due to his portrayal of Superman/Clark Kent in Lois & Clark: The New
Adventures of Superman. He went on to have other varied roles, in shows
such as Frasier
and Law & Order,
as well as making a cameo appearance in Smallville. Choosing to avoid
the long filming commitment of another television series in order to be with
his family - his son in particular - the bulk of his recent work has been
made-for-TV movies on channels like Sci-Fi, and feel-good family movies.
Bud Collyer
Had a notable career as a talk-show host and had voiced
Superman in both radio and animated series.
